Maher Family
As a family of six with four children aged between 5 and 16, we are proud to continue a farming tradition that spans at least five generations of the Maher family. While the farm has changed over time, from a dairy farm to the dry stock cattle enterprise it is today, our connection to the land remains as strong as ever.
We have been incredibly lucky to raise our children here, surrounded by nature and with the freedom to roam, explore, and enjoy a safe and active childhood. Forest Lane Lodges was inspired by this special place and our desire to share it with others, offering guests the opportunity to relax, reconnect, and experience the peace and beauty of rural Ireland.
Why We Built It
For many years, we felt a special connection to the woodland where Forest Lane Lodges now stands. Tucked away from busy roads and surrounded by nothing but trees, birdsong, and nature, it has always been a place of peace and tranquillity. We often spoke about creating something meaningful here – a place where others could experience the same sense of peace, relaxation, and connection to nature that our family has enjoyed for generations.
That vision became a reality in 2024 when we began planning Forest Lane Lodges. With Don having grown up on the family farm and Anne coming from a family deeply involved in community organisations and local development, creating a tourism experience that would benefit both visitors and the local area felt like a natural next step.
Today, Forest Lane Lodges is the result of that vision, a peaceful woodland retreat where guests can slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the beauty of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands. Every aspect of the lodges has been designed to offer comfort, sustainability, and an authentic connection to the surrounding landscape.
We’re proud that our journey has also contributed to the wider development of sustainable tourism in our region. Through the support, knowledge, and opportunities we received during the development of Forest Lane Lodges, we’ve been able to create a visitor experience that reflects our values of sustainability, accessibility, and community.
