Just Transition Fund
The journey to creating Forest Lane Lodges was made possible through the support of the Fáilte Ireland EU Just Transition Fund and the EU Just Transition Tourism Learning Network Programme.
Our journey began in 2024 when Anne attended an information event on the Just Transition Fund and discovered the opportunities available for farm diversification projects that support regenerative tourism. The programme aligned perfectly with our vision of creating a sustainable woodland retreat that would benefit both visitors and the local community.
We were honoured to be awarded funding through the Fáilte Ireland EU Just Transition Fund, co-funded by the Government of Ireland, the European Union, and the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly (EMRA).
The fund was established to help communities transition from fossil fuel-based electricity generation while supporting sustainable economic growth. By investing in projects such as Forest Lane Lodges, it encourages rural diversification, regenerative tourism, and the development of environmentally responsible visitor accommodation and experiences.
As part of this journey, Anne and Don graduated from the EU Just Transition Tourism Learning Network Programme 2024–2026. The programme provided invaluable guidance as Forest Lane Lodges developed from an idea into reality, with training in business management, marketing, sustainability, accessibility, and inclusive tourism.
The knowledge, mentoring, and connections gained throughout the programme have helped shape Forest Lane Lodges into the welcoming, accessible, and environmentally conscious destination it is today.
